This application's concept is to allow users to pick the topics they’re interested in. Users will only see the topics that they have selected previously. However, the app still allows users to customise their interests anytime.
The criteria for user needs are different in each location. For example, users in the Philippines rely on the weather forecast because the weather is continually changing, while users who live in Indonesia don’t rely on the weather forecast much.
Role : UX Designer
Responsibilities : UX Design, Usability Testing
Design Process : This project's design process was quite challenging. First of all, I had to work with another vendor who had started user research before I jumped into this project. After that, I had to catch up with almost everything and prepare for the usability testing. As a designer, I had to go through all the prototypes and scenarios to analyse if the usability of this application made sense to users. Based on my findings, I used them as user tasks for usability testing. The usability testing was set up in Jakarta, Indonesia, and I worked with a local outsource usability testing service where they could provide the usability lab and participants.
My design process on this project:

I emphasized usability testing and created user tasks/scenarios to match business requirements that potentially meet users’ goals. The goal of the usability testing was to find what worked and what didn’t or what needed to be changed or revised.

The diagram above shows the process. User needs and the business criteria were the main focus that I couldn’t ignore. I had to find the breakpoint where both worlds could meet. My design journey was about finding what users sought through usability testing. From the testing results, I had to tailor and suggest to the business team and my team what was suitable for users and what wouldn’t benefit the business side.
As the project progressed, I had a chance to work on new features such as “Search.” While everyone might think that Search is straightforward and has nothing to do with it, that’s pretty darn wrong.
The design process was even more challenging when the backend and data were the design limitations. The algorithm learns what users like and what is frequently viewed in recent topics. Each search result always delivers and suggests something similar to what users have just searched for and what they have watched.

These are the steps I took to work on this project, and I quite had fun with it. I also looked into many applications that solved similar problems. From what I discussed with the team, they preferred something easy to implement (Time Constraints: tight deadline—is a huge concern). There were many factors that I had to consider during my design journey.
